Birthday bash for Mosaic: Wired

Mosaic 1.0 was released April 23 1993. Tonight is the 10 year birthday party at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Big time guests include Vint Cerf. For more on the details of the birth of the webs first "browser" and the party check the link. Note that as many people incorrectly reported last week it is NOT THE BIRTHDAY OF INTERNET EXPLORER. On that day we dont have a party.   Mosaic Blows Out 10 Candles: Wired

Re: Birthday bash for Mosaic: Wired

Wasn't IE like 2 weeks behind Mosaic? We should have a funeral procession on that day...

Re: Birthday bash for Mosaic: Wired

agreed, a funeral procession for Mosaic and Netscape. as much as I hate IE for the standards bastardization crap, it was the best browser for years (on a particular platform), was. now i honestly rank Mozilla and Opera as better.

man I dont use IE but I feel for those who do. IE needs javascript controls (popup blocking, etc) and tabbed browsing. it feels totally outdated when i have to use IE.

also, i didnt realize it was that soon after mosaic. i thought it was quite some time?

Re: Birthday bash for Mosaic: Wired

I was just making up dates - I couldn't agree more about IE now though. I think it's a classic sign of competition - while MS was worried about Netscape they innovated the hell out of their browser - now that they are (for all practical purposes) the defacto browser the only work that has gone into IE seems to be stuff to hook it tighter to MS's other products.
