So Gmail is 2GB now, and it is crazy fast with a great interface (even with all that javascripty stuff ;)).
Whats next for you, maybe libgmail, a full Python library to provide access to your account in all kinds of ways, including stuff like your account AS AN SMTP or FTP server.
If thats not enough, just mount the 2GB as a drive using gmailFS.

Continuing the Google theme, have you guys seen this website?

Every now and then one of those websites comes along that makes you think 'Shit, I wish I had thought of that'. This is one of those sites for me.
RE: Gmail hacks, libgmail and gmailFS
I would also point out g4j the Java GMail API. I have been thinking about using that to build a SyncML service to sync gmail contacts, but that is on the back burner.
The guy who maintains it keeps it up to date really well, but the docs he is... aaaah... not so on the ball with. If you start playing with it, be sure to get the src and gen your own javadocs.

Yeah, I have seen the craigs list mapping. I have a feeling that google maps is going to become the default UI for all online maps now....
Until someone really comes along and out does it.
