Re: Alan Cox on 64 bit Linux, Kernel future, IETF

The text on this site seems to like to rotate from center-justified to left-justified to center again (seems to be center-justified most of the time). Any reason?

Re: Alan Cox on 64 bit Linux, Kernel future, IETF

?

the text on what site? the linked article or the penguin itself? i dont see problems with either, but please explain? penguin moves around some based on the size of the content in the table, but i dont want to lock it down because that also allows it to resize with browser window resize, etc? i guess i could make a minimum size to help, but please clarify if you are talking about totsp or not.

thanks

Re: Alan Cox on 64 bit Linux, Kernel future, IETF

I am talking about penguin. For instance, right now, all text is being centered. Story text, front page links, phorum posts, etc. Here are several screenshots to show you what I am talking about (1, 2). Its not just an MSIE problem because I can replicate it on Mozilla. Maybe this is the desired functionality, I dunno. Its strange just because it sometimes shifts from centered to left-justified.

Re: Alan Cox on 64 bit Linux, Kernel future, IETF

HOLY CRAP man, I have never seen that! I use all kinds of browsers and the code is all standardized (it validates.) Its supposed to be left justified, what I meant was that sometimes the size of the center table is different based on content and I thought maybe that was what go meant about justification.

No indeed.

The screenshots you sent are very helpful, I have NEVER seen that behaviour. Very strange. I use Mozilla on Linux and Win2K mainly.

I note your screen shots are via XP? Please advise what operating system and what browser so I can test, that aint how it should be, again, wierd, sorry man.

Re: Alan Cox on 64 bit Linux, Kernel future, IETF

Yea, its Windows XP Professional using IE6 with the latest hotfixes (6.0.2600.0000.xpclient.010817-1148 if you want to get real specific). Also, I take back my previous statement about this behavior occurring in Mozilla, as I just tried it on 0.9.9 and it looks just fine (this should give you a good comparison). Anyway, I know I am using ghetto software here, but its always nice to work with all browsers...I am sure its something easy to fix.

Re: Alan Cox on 64 bit Linux, Kernel future, IETF

absolutely man, thanks for letting me know, i will look into it, i have not tested it in IE6, but trust me, if its broke its more than likely an IE bug and not a totsp problem. i know that sounds arrogant, but i have spent hours making this code validate (which is embarassing because there is one javascript error right now with the "add to sidebar" thing, i just added that and its code copied fom mozilla, i detest, loathe, hate, javascript but its my only option when changing settings on the browser, which is not a good idea EXCEPT for something like the sidebar, i dunno though, i am thinking the sidebar is more and more lame every day, its just a frame, and frames are BAD news too) and i know its all XHTML right on.

even so, i will gladly check it out and see if i can accomodate XP and IE6, thanks again for the heads up.
