A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeeded be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.
Very well stated indeed... Rogue is an excellent word choice. I think the thing that gets lost in the majority population is that at heart our county is a capitalistic nation. Whether that is ultimately good or bad is a question to be debated elsewhere, but at a minimum it must be called into play in any discussion regarding our intervening in international affairs. There is a lot of power and even more money floating around in DC, and to think that isn't influencing decisions is naive. That is what makes the United Nations so important. Although as citizens of the US we might choose to believe that our only interst in Iraq is justice a large portion of the world is more cynical and distrusting of us and will assume there is a financial (capitalist) motivation to our action. An endosrment by the UN can serve as a green light to the rest of the world that this conflict is ultimately about justice (although there will always be the extremist who disagree) and not about one nation seeking some hidden agenda. Just my 2 cents.....
