The Ebb Tide of OS Dominance Is Reformatting!

On every front of the computer industry there is fever that is extraordinary. We can see that every faucet of computer technology is "retooling" for the demands of information access requirements. I have mentioned, in a past article, that the ultimate result of the efforts of today will be addressed to the stars. Most did not comprehend the analogy for that statement. What we do today will someday directly bear on the ability for technology to produce quantum star travel. A pipe dream? I personally think not. Fact is, they are already on the drawing board. All they need is to determine the drive-power of the vehicle. Science will break that barrier, soon.
What does that say about the fever in IT for today? I believe that we are witnessing the forerunner operating system that will become the "brain" in that vehicle. Linux is small, powerful, fast, and most importantly, stable. Those are the qualities that are crucial to operation and safety of the vehicle. If the "brain" malfunctions, we got trouble. And, with the quad-trillions of calculations per ms, that are needed, speed is essential. Blinding speed.
What has that got to do with today? So what? Who cares? You should! Yeah? Why? Because, business, as it is conducted today, is changing rapidly. It is an awesome transition to behold. Boldness and initiative drives the business community to reformulate the parameters of doing business. That initiative has fallen to the IT community to build and then rebuild again. By looking outside of the positions that IT personnel now habitat, we can see that providing the impetus for transitioning to another plane for business is a momentous and awesome responsibility. Are the IT personnel up to the task? Many are. Most are not. They who are not suffer from tunnel vision. They can only see that which involves them in their day-to-day operations. They have fallen into a vortex of diminishing capabilities. They are the ones who believe that their positions are "safe" and are not willing, possibly not committed, to growing in competence.
At the beginning of the article, I referred to the ebb of OS dominance. A dominate operating system, for all it's worth, defies growth and stagnates the brilliance that lies within grasp. For that reason, I am truly excited by to emergence of the Linux as a optional operating system for computer desktop users to utilize. If the improvements continue to grow and incorporate advancement to the desktop user, we will see a substantial growth for the desktop users and providers. Business cannot support the R&D cost that are needed, forever. They may support the basics, not the growth potential that is apparently needed. There are millions of users, I am one, who own PC's that are not now compatible for use with Linux. My basic configuration will accept the Linux OS, but the other appliances (CD-RW, DVD-ROM, printer, etc,) are not usable to me with Linux. For that reason, I have not installed the Caldera Linux 2.3 OS. By the end of this year I expect to be able to utilize Linux and all of the hardware. As Atrox said in one of his articles: "Patience, Grasshopper!". Having spent more than $3000 for the PC I now have, I am hopeful to have the use of Linux in the near future. Time is on my side. I am confident that I will receive the OS that will drive my and others home PC's with reliability.
