Yes its true, big guns are seriously considering Open Source. The latest is Novell. Novell has been working on their own version of the GPL which they call the "Novell Cooperative License." This license mode is similar to GPL but allows for arbitration. Check out the WideOpen story for more details.Some argue that multiple licenses are a problem, I agree but also note that this is the infancy of this movement (even though it is decades old) and it will take time to solidify things. That is after all the entire point isnt it? Different forks (and licenses) will emerge and eventually the better ideas from each will be adopted and utilized more, therefore changing the face of all ideas. This way the best of each idea can be freely incorporated into the overall best product (license.)
