Linux on the Itanium: The Team Assembles

64 bit Linux on the new Intel Itanium? You bet. Four major Linux distributors (RedHat, SuSE, TurboLinux and Caldera) announce a Trillian project to work together on Linux for the Itanium chipset. Sweet! Think those NT guys are gonna compete? Good Luck. NT will make it onto Itanium, but when? This illustrates another of the advantages of Linux. Its very flexible and scalable, it will be ported to new chipsets much faster than other products, especially Microsoft products (lets face Windows 2000 isnt even out yet, imagine the process for creating the 64 bit flavor, nightmare!)
