NEI Webworld stock went from $0.15 to $15 because of two clever investors who fraudulently bolstered the stock price. The investors used several web bulletin boards and a bunch of aliases to create the frenzy that drove the price up. You read it right, simply proclaiming on a web bulletin board that NEI had some fancy moves and potential (they did lie about several facts) caused the ruckus and the monumental price increase. Caveat EmptorThis is significant because these clowns had nothing to do with the company. This story had happened before, but normally it is associated with an insider. Usually this fraud occurs when an employee of the company falsifies documents or such. This was not the case in this incident, these investors were not involved in any way with NEI.Here comes the mini-opinionated-rant:My take on this is that even though these guys lied about whatever concerning the company, and made $300,000 because of it, so what. The problem is that countless fools believed them and bought stocks based on bulletin board postings alone. The alleged perpetrators have been charged with SEC fraud, but I disagree with that. People need to pay attention to what they invest in and research the company. These guys are guilty of lying and being sleazy no doubt, but SEC fraud, not really. Again, the problem is with haphazard investors and they should be accountable for their actions even if a bulletin board post was a lie. Are all bulletin board posts guaranteed to be the truth? Come on, deal with reality and accountability. Are we going to prosecute the prophets who post that Y2K is the end of the world, when it doesnt happen, just because some idiots believed them and sold all their belongings, ridiculous. Yes, that analogy is a little extreme, but it is the same principle, accountability has been forgotten.Check the link for more details. NEI Webworld Stock Fraud
