Redhat and IBM Team up for Linux Java

RedHat has chosen the IBM JVM and the IBM developer kit for Linux as the bundled Java technology for its illustrious Linux distro. There is much speculation about why this move has been made, but I think it simply comes down to licensing and to the overall partnership. RedHat and IBM go way back at least 10 months (thats a long time for this out of control bandwagon) and the IBM license is more in the spirit of Linux things. Anyway, I think its a good thing. Sun is the god of java, but Sun has a competing OS (hey, what about OS2, uh, yeah right, whatever) and a crazy license. Regardless, the whole idea is "write once, run anywhere" right? SO as long as its the right JVM spec the implemtation should not matter, as long as its 100% pure Java. I like the Linux support and direction from IBM and I think Redhat made the right move. Check out alphaWorks for a download of the IBM JDK and many more Linux related tools. Way cool stuff from IBM.   Redhat and IBM Java
