IBM has made another open source software stride. The release of the IBM "Journaled File System" via the GNU General Public License. I am not very familiar with this exact product but it is a significant release for enterprise class systems on Linux. I dont know if this is a brand of AFS or a completely seperate project but it is the same idea. The Reiser File System is also becoming available on Linux so the choices for journaling filesystems are there.
