The Threat is REALized - Microsoft Linux Group

Microsoft slick business again: on one hand claiming Linux is no serious threat and has no real market and on the other hand involuntarily releasing the "Halloween" documents and forming a new task force to "deal" with Linux. Hey Redmond, try legitimate business for once, try selling a better product and supporting it better than anyone else, and the world will get off your back, instead of smoke, mirrors and lies (not to mention subpar software.) And one little part of this equation that you cant control this time is OPEN SOURCE. This is an idea, a concept, a model, you cant buy it and bury it, sorry. What legitimate company snuffs out its competitors by bashing them, buying and squashing them or by simply sabotaging them anyway? Especially in this business? My gripe here with M$ is that there is enough market and profit to go around, take your share and be content, world domination should not be the goal of a software company. (Well, OK, underhanded business manuevers admittedly happen in a capitalistic economy, yes, it is part of the nature of the game, but overall winners should win because of a better business model or product, not because of a better gustapo force.)What prompted this rant? Is it just my latest fit, no its this :News.Com Microsoft Linux Group Story. In which it is reported that Microsoft has formed a Linux Task group to "deal" with the problem. OK, so they should pay attention, but unfortunately all too often Microsoft business tactics tailspin into mob mentality all or nothing measures. A real legitimate responsible company (which I admit may in fact be an oxymoron, but at least be a little more clever about hiding it) would study the root cause of the market shift, not bash it and try to crush it. Figure out what the difference is and adapt, do it better (well another paradox, thats the basis of all of Microsofts products anyway.) Luckily for the world, and for us, Microsoft can "deal" all they want, but the open sorce model and Linux wont be bought and or cant be assimilated, this phenomenon is real and it is here to stay. Microsoft Killer that it is, task "group" or not!
