OK, I recently saw some fancy Beowulf footwork at LinuxExpo. I have been interested in Beowulf for some time and now I am going to explore that interest and provide a Beowulf Firsthand Review.
Beowulf or Extreme Linux is parallel computing using Linux. Very far reaching and extraordinary possibilities now exist because of the Beowulf project and others such as ExtremeLinux. Supercomputing is expanding rapidly and many industries and individuals will benefit greatly from this technology. From universities, to hospitals, to corporations, faster task processing for candidate applications through the use of parallel computing is a tremendously beneficial reality.
We at TOTSP plan on using beowulf with some recently aquired hardware (10 486 33mhz rack mounted boards) to develop a Beowulf SETI cluster machine. This project is really more for educational and Bewoulf technology review purposes than actual SETI processing or speed gains, but the results may hopefully be valuable to future projects, TOTSP subscribers and others.
I will start with researching some of the latest documentation including materials I got from LinuxExpo and document myself the entire process from configuring hardware and software to porting applications. I wish to create a step by step guide to Beowulf using commonly available hardware. I plan on also offering the entire review process online here at TOTSP including the documentation and of course the naked pictures. Of instrumental support value will be other TOTSP subscribers and anyone will helpful information.
For Beowulf info NOW check the links above, but keep an eye out here for this review process and the complete story when finished.
