Microsofts Steve Ballmer insightfully declares "the future of computing and telecommunications are inextricably linked!" Now theres news, huh. Anyway, beyond the hype, he did go on to call for a collaboration of computing and telecom. He stated that "Microsofts strategy and vision over the next two decades will will depend on forging close relationships with a number of industries, including telecommunications." See the enire article at the SuperCommNews site. This is not a shocker, but is significant. All the major players recognize that essentially VOICE IS DATA. Telecom companies are scrambling to become data companies while data companies adapt to take over telecom (voice over IP will win, someday.) Data companies, while not as prevalent and perched as telcos right now, do have the advantage and will make strides into telco. Big mama telcos will become data companies, and large data corporations will continue on and absorb telco business as data. It is a natural progression and Microsoft is just another company that recognizes the enormous opportunity for data companies.
