The perception at large of Linux has come a tremendously long way in the past 18 months. Even just several months ago there was much debate as to whether the "hacker underground phenom OS" would ever make any "real progress." This conjecture came not from fringe groups but from companies and gropus like ZDNet, Reuters and Gartner. To those of us who use it, who have used it for years, all of this speculation as to whether or not Linux will "make it" is silly. Linux has made it, it has been around, it is in widespread use. The debate that the psuedo-IT informed world has (and is still having) with the legitimacy of Linux is ridiculous. Will Linux "rule the world." No, thats not the goal. Will Linux "take over significant market share." Yes, if the rest of the market is a bunch of crappy products that are overpriced, overmarketed, underdesigned and poorly supported by the manufacturers. Is Linux the great OS revolution? No, if it fits the requirements you have, use it. Its all very simple really, no big suprise, no real debate. As I read the headlines today:
