Compaq and IBM investigate Beowulf for business. The Alpha and Netfinity groups of each company respectively are looking into Beowulf as a possible marketable solution for commercial customers with SERIOUS computing needs.Currently industries such as "pharmaceuticals, oil searching, structural analysis, and visualization of complex data" are potential customers. Ssounds like a solid logical conclusion to me. If science and engineering communities can utilize Beowulf at a fraction of the costs of other "supercomputers" in research and education, why cant businesses save some cash too?
