Thanks again to the illustrious bunch at segfault for uncovering the truth. The NASA orbiter was lost, well I wont bother trying to repeat this technical jargon, but this was what REALLY happened:"The first committee report on the loss of the Mars Climate Orbiter came to the conclusion that a miscommunication between NASA, which uses the Terran metric system, and Blockhead Martian Astronautics, which did their calculations using the Martian standard units (eg. areoglops, marticalcs and multiples of 1/345988881.43 times the distance between Olympus Mons and Paris at conjunction) was the cause of the navigational error which lost the $125 million spacecraft."Check the Segfault link for further gruesome details.
