The SQUID Interent Proxy Object Cache server is another fine enterprise ready Linux and open source application. I have worked previously with SQUID, and it is a nice product - project. Looking for some proxy solutions, consider SQUID and check the Oreilly link for a nice tutorial.
Sidebar: Replacing commercial products with SQUID can be done, and it works quite well. I have used SQUID at home for some time and am seriously considering displacing a few Microsoft Proxy Servers at the current customer account I work on. Actually, I really like Microsoft Proxy server, it has great functionality that nothing else can really offer in the Winsock Proxy setup, and it is highly and easily configurable. My motive for the possible change is general stability. Even with a seemingly good product, MS Proxy Servers do much better with frequent reboots (hmmm, an NT trait you say?) I dont like that, not acceptable to have to reboot to manage memory. If money is a concern, use SQUID no doubt. If money is not a concern consider all the options. SQUID and Masquerading IS more difficult to setup, and administer, but the end result is probably a better, more stable product. Oreilly SQUID Tutorial
