The FBI has recently released some new intrusion detection tools for many operating systems, including Linux. The vulnerabilities relate to several SUN RPC exploits that allow hackz to gain access to systems and place trojan horses that can then be used to run the now all to infamous distributed denial of service attacks (DDos.)
Check the link for the detection tools, and keep a VERY clode eye on ANY RPC services (always, not just today because of the press.)
These are not really news, they are classic exploits. Not keeping up with patch levels and security information is dangerous. Keep an eye on all security information and dont overlook code updates (dont always use them either, determine what the update is and deploy based on requirement, the whole thing is common sense really.)
