Webmonkey has a nice Zend intro. For the uninitiated Zend is a new engine and component strcuture for PHP. For the further confused, PHP is the best web scripting language around, open source or not, the best period.

Zend introduces the engine and an "optimizing compiler" for PHP. With the optimized code, PHP is faster than ASP. Add to that the new features of PHP 4 and ASP is truly out of the picture. PHP and Zend are free, stable, open source and easier to learn than ASP. ASP is for lame VB jockeys, jab.
