I live in the south and I think the latest news about the "rise again" movement is disappointing. I have lived in various southern US states for most of my life and have constantly seen the propoganda and or heard the slogans, you have heard it also, "the south will rise again!" Yee haaa.
However it appears that the actual uprising has been postponed for at least another year. This makes the 135th straight year it has been put off since the surrender of General Lee. According to the linked (very reputable) sources the south does still plan to rise again, but first some of the southern revolt leaders have to take care of such tasks as "get the truck fixed and that rusty stove out of my lawn", in fact they may need to mow a few lawns just to find the stoves.
Surveys show that the overwhelming majority of southerners support rising again, but this weekend many of them have to help take the wheels of their grand brothers new house. The support is definitely there, but the details are still a little sketchy even after 135 years of planning.
It is important to note that the south may actually be "poised for a renaissance." Check this excerpt and the story link for more detials:
The Deep South states of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Tennessee consistently rank at
the bottom of the nation in a wide variety of statistical categories, including literacy, infant mortality, hospital beds, toilet-paper
sales, and shoe usage. Even so, some experts believe the region could be poised for a renaissance.
"The way things stand, things in the Deep South almost have to get better. Otherwise, the people who live there will
devolve into preverbal, overall-wearing sub-morons within a century," said Professor Dennis Lassiter of Princeton University.
"Either Southerners will start improving themselves, or they'll be sold to middle-class Asians as pets."
