Screaming Penguin - Source Does Matter

Rootprompt has a very nice beginners tutorial for emacs. emacs is a great editor once you put in some effort to get to know how to use and customize it. Yes, vi is always there, but emacs can do more. Pico is my favorite for bare bones quick edits, but for serious editing you should check out emacs.
