Another new NC venture for Larry: InfoWorld

I believe, do you? Larry Ellison certainly believes and is backing another network computer (NC) venture. This company, the New Internet Computer Company (NICC) will market inexpensive devices that DO NOT run Windows, have no moving parts (no hard drive at least) and allow for quick and dirty Internet access. I think this model is the future of computing. As soon as real bandwidth is available in each home, and external storage space is readily available, why have moving parts, software boxes and all that hassle? The terminal needs to be quick and capable of connecting to serious resources elsewhere. With fast bandwidth and terrabytes of backed up offsite storage available to access from anywhere, why would we even think about doing things the archaic way we do now? Network computers will make it, the question is when? I also believe in this model at the office, centralized resources and smart terminal devices at the desktop (kinda like the old mainframe days, but not really, the terminal is still totally customizable and for all intensive purposes has all of the same functionality as a local machine.) Save time, money and frustration, even if the terminal costs 200 bucks (and you can get a PC for that) the TCO is much lower and the lifespan much greater, its no contest.
