Mounting Samba shares and SMB-NFS interoperability: Sharity-Light

Sharity-Light is a sort of alternative to smbfs and smbclient program for the Unix world. As such it is an SMB client for UNIX. Sharity runs in user mode and does things a little differently (and there are a few admitted issues that seem quite ominous, such as no file locking) than Samba.
This seems like great potential to me and it may be beneficial to small shops (or homes) in its current form. Wherever the issue of file locking and file sharing is not paramount, Sharity-Light seems quite feasible. What is interesting about the entire idea is that remote Samba (and Windows) shares can be mounted on the Unix box, rather than manually manipulated FTP style. The mount can then even be exported with NFS. This is a very handy feature and while it may not be perfect yet, the ability to MOUNT SMB drives from a Unix client is a great concept.
NOTE**
if SMB MOUNTS can be done otherwise in Unix, please advise, this has always confused me, Samba is great for WIndows to Linux, but not so great for Linux to Linux, yes there are alternatives for the native Linux, such as NFS, but in a heterogeneous shop, with Samba already running anyway (for the Windoze machines without NFS software) why not use it for everybody, it can be done, but using smbclient is a pain, mounting the share would be much easier (ncpfs style?)
Please advise if I am missing something, it seems to me this functionality would be built into Samba, but I am not aware of it. mounting samba shares: bsdtoday
