Screaming Penguin - Source Does Matter

While suck.com is known as a sarcastic and oft abrasive (trying to be tactful here) site, I think they have gone too far with a recent story that declares Mozilla dead with such acute literary descriptive prose as "massive festering cyst."
The suck author proclaims that Mozilla is a victim of feature creep and subsequent bloat. He goes on to say it is ugly, that the developers are to blame for their lack of perspective and that there is virtually no redeeming code to show for the 2 years of work.

Let me start by saying I diasgree strongly with that, with all of that. I dont want to get into an ad hominem argument here, but these fools are missing the point and apparently dont understand the technology they deem "without interest by anybody without a CS degree."

These un-needed features include an XML parser, XSLT translation, LDAP, MathML, XUL and component set, chat, messaging, etc, etc. News flash, real world THESE ARE ALL ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS OF A 5th GENERATION BROWSER (especially the XML, XSL, XUL and atomic components.) These are the things that will make Mozilla THE browser used on every embedded device which will be very prevalent in the near future (this is an awesome PC browser, but its consideration only BEGINS there.)

While Mozilla has been beset by some problems, I think the end result is already very impressive and the underlying technology is amazing. M16 is damn good and the final product will undoubtedly be the best browser around bar none (what are the alternatives?, buy Opera, use Internet Exploder with its 85MB kernel update foorprint, yeah whatever.) I also believe that the open source initiative and free standards based browser concept are of paramount importance to a lot of people, a lot of companies and to the Internet itself. Maybe in the office of suck.com Internet Explorer is the Internet, but not in the real world.

I wont delve off into every specific issue and point, but Mozilla is a project of unparalleled importance and technological achievement. If you have a problem with Mozilla, THEN PITCH THE HELL IN RATHER THAN WHINING ABOUT IT (uh, it is open after all.)

The bottom line is that it takes time and immense effort to produce the type of quality and functionality that the Mozilla folks demand, yeah suck.com, they could have released a psuedo full of holes half ass lock up bastardized with proprietary "standards" browser a lot sooner, but we already have IE now dont we. Personally I admire the acheivement and the commitment of the Mozilla team, thanks Mozilla you are doing a great job (despite the detractors such as the suck boys.)
