IBM has had major Linux plans for sometime. Now the plans have been extended to include a common operating system goal on each of the IBM server platforms. This includes Intelx86 PCservers, NUMAQ, AS400, RS600 and S390.
This is a good plan for IBM and for Linux. IBM should be able to make many operations more efficient by running a common OS (again, should, and Linux wont be the ONLY OS, couple that with the somewhat inept aptitude of IBM as a company, and it could mean more obfuscation.) As for Linux, its all good, IBM is pouring cash and knowledge into Caldera, RedHat, TurboLinux and SuSE.
