Check the announcement via the link, KDE 2.0 RC2 (release candidate 2) is now available (including binaries for many major distros.) This release is the "final" release candidate pending the official launch of "Kopernicus" on October 23.

KDE flat out rocks, check the KDE.org site for details about the inner workings of KDE, but suffice to say it is a very robust, standards based, application filled desktop for UNIX.
