phpOracleAdmin!

I am a huge fan of phpWizard.net and the famous apps phpMyAdmin, phpPgAdmin, phpAds and phpPolls. In fact phpMyAdmin is one of the better database administration tools I have EVER used, commercial or otherwise (I have also used phpPgAdmin and while it is no longer maintained at the wizard, it is still also very good.) TO that end I have always hated working on my free and open source based projects with phpMyAdmin which rocks and then having to swith to large commercial projects with Oracle and have tools that suck! Dont get me wrong, Oracle itself it awesome, none better, but it is outrageously priced and so are any good development and admin tools to go with it.

Call me new-fashioned, but SQLplus sucks. There are alternatives that help you work faster and are even GUI type tools, but generally for Oracle they are prohibitively expensive (kinda like Oracle itself eh?) Well I have always pondered writing or trying to drum up support for a phpOracleAdmin type PHP based Oracle tool.

Turns out that I am not alone in this line of thought and someone has already undertaken the endeavor. phpOracleAdmin is alive and well at phporacleadmin.org.

Its still a development release, but it looks very impressive and appears to be full of features. Being that it is Oracle related it will HAVE to do a lot more than phpMyAdmin can do, but its a monumental improvement over nothing but SQLplus even if it can only update, insert and delete stuff.

Re: phpOracleAdmin!

This is good stuff. Ditto on the SQL*Plus crap. Even PostgreSQL's command line tool is better than oracle's.

Thanks for the pointer, -jeepmutt
