Screaming Penguin - Source Does Matter

There are a few commercial tools that everyone seems compelled to buy when it comes time to do reporting and analyzation of web server log files (WebTrends chief among them.) This is a call to arms that there are real and viable alternatives FOR FREE.

Several that I have used are quite good, very much free and perform well. Checkout Webalizer and analog. These tools are both very customizable and can produce output on a variety of things in a variety of formats. Neither are as convoluted (uh, I mean, full of features) as commerical alternatives, but they tell you stuff about your webserver by parsing the logifles and compiling reports and remember, thats what you wanted to do in the first place before things got all fancy.
