Slashdot has a story and link to another story (dont you love these weblogs) on ecommercetimes about overall internet activity. 4 companies get 50% of all Internet traffic according to the purported experts at Jupiter Media Matrix (where do you get the logfiles for the entire Internet, and moreover, where do you get accurate logfiles, oh wait, this is marketing, accuracy need not be present.)
Its rather amazing to me, the four companies are Microsoft, AOL, Yahoo and Napster. I never visit any of those sites. I can see how these are popular entities (and they own a ton of sites beyond just the company.com sites) but 50% of all traffic? Wow! Yahoo is now powered by Google, and Yahoo has always been good, so that makes sense, and I can see some Napster traffic even though I personally dont ever hit their site, but who actually thinks msn is a real search engine or portal? Again, 50%, wheres all that porn come in, that doesnt even make a dent?
Interesting stuff, check out more info via the links. http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=01/06/05/0851206
