All over the news today the headlines are similar: "Warming news chills out Bush" spouts USA Today. The National Academy of Sciences was employed by the US government to conduct an independent review of a previous report by the UN that confirmed that global warming is real and is caused by humans. What a revelation, duh!

The bottom line is that we know what causes global warming, we know we are creating those causes, we know that global warming is real and we know how to stop its unnatural progression. Its actually totally stupid that this has to be a headline in 2001, the causes of global warming have been known for decades. Maybe now we can get on with a solution?

What is the reason we have been considering this great "mystery" for so long? There are people among us and in power that subvert real scientific evidence of anything any time it may impact (not stop or eliminate, simply affect) any industrial or economic situation. Are these outrageous scientists just crazy? No, science is real, it is not the bias or personal preference of a particular scientist. The outrage is that people are so selfish and short term oriented that they would ignore or suppress real evidence of a problem to purportedly protect some economic status.

Global warming is real and potentially catastrophic. We pretty much knew that in the 70s, but of course we have to consider the "economic impact" of doing anything about it. This economic impact is the primary concern of the current US adminsitration. News flash, the impact of breathing and having land to live on and produce food on is pretty important to the economy also. It might cost $5000 more to make a car that doesnt produce greenhouse gas emissions, but it will cost $20000 to make that car a boat, and even then good luck finding a Big Mac!

The current US administration has suggested that the UN report on global warming was simply political. It was supposedly simply created to support the Kyoto protocol which will harm the US economy. This is totally a bunch of crap. The original report is correct, this new report confirms it there is no secret motivation to be a global warming advocate, political or otherwise. Environmentalists wish it wasnt true, we would all like a world in which we can pollute as much as we want and get rich in our factories and refineries and there be no environmental impact. Sure, that would be great, but the FACTS are that it is true, there is an impact and having a safe, clean and stable planet to live on is kind of important, maybe even more important than the profit margin at that factory? There is no conspiracy to be environmentally aware and responsible, its simply the reality that conscientious long term thinking people recognize.

Yeah Yeah, one more report, great, can we get started doing something about it already? (And for the record, personally, I do what I can, I drive a hybrid car, I use solar energy in my home, I recycle, and I VOTE! (whether or not the votes actually get counted.))

The sky is not falling so chill out on an issue that has no back bone. For every one person that claims that we are experiencing global warming there are ten to offset that. Let me know how many stories you want me to post so that everyone here can get that through their panic stricken head.
Everything is a guess at this point. At any time we could see an ice age come and it would slap the whole idea of global warming down. I think sometimes that we put ourselves on a pedestal, but this earth is a whole lot bigger than all of us.

Is global warming occurring?

According to Accu-Weather, the world’s leading commercial forecaster, "Global air temperatures as measured by land-based weather stations show an increase of about 0.45 degrees Celsius over the past century. This may be no more than normal climatic variation...[and] several biases in the data may be responsible for some of this increase."

Satellite data indicate a slight cooling in the climate in the last 18 years. These satellites use advanced technology and are not subject to the "heat island" effect around major cities that alters ground-based thermometers.

Projections of future climate changes are uncertain. Although some computer models predict warming in the next century, these models are very limited. The effects of cloud formations, precipitation, the role of the oceans, or the sun, are still not well known and often inadequately represented in the climate models --- although all play a major role in determining our climate. Scientists who work on these models are quick to point out that they are far from perfect representations of reality, and are probably not advanced enough for direct use in policy implementation. Interestingly, as the computer climate models have become more sophisticated in recent years, the predicted increase in temperature has been lowered.

its people like this, like you, that totally amaze me. you are so set in your ignornace that you can even see straight. i dont WANT global warming to be a reality. i dont HOPE it is, i dont SPECULATE that it might happen, its called science. its called chemistry. its called i read books, i dotn just buy the crap somebody else feeds me or look for responses that i WANT to hear. its called the scientific method, the conclusions I, and any REPUTABLE, scientists draw about global climate change are based in REALITY, based on scientific fact. yes, you can find ten morons to dispute it for every one that says it is so, but what in the hell does that have to do with the validity. go lookup ad hominem, jackass! (use of it intended.)
