Dell announced yesterday that Redhat Linux will now be available pre-installed, configured and optimized on several server lines (Poweredge.)
Very cool news. Many people dont realize it but more and more large corporations are using Linux for the enterprise. I recall a time not too long ago when Linux was discounted and bashed even on the server front. Now you can purchase Linux servers all over (Dell, IBM, Va, Penguin Computing, etc, etc) and there are many Linux support options available as well. Call it what you want, speculate however you want, but Linux is here to stay, server and desktop (yes, I said desktop, I have said desktop and I still say desktop, in time grasshopper, in time.)

Re: Dell Announces Factory Installed Linux
Very cool news. We use Dell Windows 2000 PC's at work, and so far they have been very good... And they'll be much better with Linux installed!
Are these only servers or are the workstations also?
Re: Dell Announces Factory Installed Linux
right now it looks like servers only. hopefully the workstations will follow sometime soon (xfree86 3.x-4 and kde 2 is ultra solid, the uptime on my workstation us 24 days right now and the last reboot was due to a power outage that oulasted the ups.)
Re: Dell Announces Factory Installed Linux
actually, the press release says "select precision workstations" also, it appears some are available NOW
