Rant: Us Govt and Stem Cell Research

Ok, I am gonna keep this one short and sweet after a small disclaimer. I am trying to make the political rants less frequent. I seem to be pissing people off (not that thats a terrible thing, but I do recognize that there are other sites for policitcs, this is TotSP, understood.) Why rant at all? Well, it is the rants category, its meant for people to express opinions, you can rant too. Ok, disclaimer over, rant on. The news everywhere is hyping the hell out of GWBs stem cell "decision." They have called it the "most important decision Bush has ever made" and thats a load of CRAP. I am not arguing overly with his decision here (I am glad he said research on, but limiting the research is silly) rather I am arguing whether or not there is any tremendous magnitude to the decision. Whether or not the government funds stem cell research is irrelevant. Do it, dont do it, do it half ass, whatever. Private companies, other governments and institutions around the world will do it. It will happen. It will mean great medical advances. Its not the "most important decision ever", its a difficult decision and position for the prez polictically, but its not even close to mega important in the grand scheme of real issues the government makes decisions about. Either way (and I think the consideration of all sides by the prez has been admirable) its not gonna stem the research (sorry, pun intended, couldnt resist.)
