Sun puts Solaris 9 for Intel on hold: C|net

While it may not be used as much as other Intel OSes, having Solaris available on Intel is valuable for many reasons. Some people use it as a production OS and many others use it to test Solaris based apps and or do development (when they cant afford a Sun box for everyone:P.)

Oh Well, no more Solaris on Intel, for now at least?

This move probably does make sense for Sun, it will be an entire area of cost and hassle they no longer have to deal with, and Intel Solaris surely was never profitable. However, Intel Solaris was a convenience for customers and while it is no longer available it will make things more difficult for smaller companies wanting to offer and utilize Solaris.
