Java Creator sounds off on Microsoft C#: ZDNet UK

James Gosling, one of the "inventors" of Java, now a Sun VP states that he isnt too worried about C#. Specifically he states that C# is like "Java with reliability, productivity and security deleted."

Thats funny. Gosling goes on to discuss the memory model and explain his position. I am a huge Java proponent and I generally despise Microsoft, but at the same time I think it is important to point out that the first Java wasnt exactly reliable and secure either?

At any rate it seems that C# has some critics. Java and J2EE is my preference but admittedly is moving slower in terms of adoptance than previously anticipated.

That may give .Net and C# time to catch up regardless of any current problems? But wait, you still have to run .Net and C# on an MS platform (despite plans to have other platforms in the future, the fact is, it only runs on MS and probably never will run on anything else, at least not officially supported by MS.) I think that cripples .Net and C# beyond any recognition whether they are the best thing in the world or not.

Good or bad, pros and cons, etc aside C# , running Windows2K or NT as a platform is a BAD IDEA. Talk about security, reliabilty and performance problems, ouch.
