Ignorance the LAW in Alabama

Tagged:

There have been a series of stories the last few weeks over a recent Alabama Supreme Court ruling that \"Homosexuality is a sin\" and citation of the \"Bible\" in court.

This is wrong on many many levels. Alabama joins Kansas (who banned the teaching of evolution if you recall) on the pedestal of complete and utter ignorance.

Even if you dont like homosexuality, even if you are not a homosexual and do not understand homosexuality, what do the bible and \"sin\" have to do with court rulings? They shouldnt. However, in this supposedly \"modern\" age the practice of mixing religion and government continues. There are so many reasons why church and state are bad that I wont even go into it here, regardless of the constitution, there are real reasons why this is bad (notice that just saying \"cause its an amendment\" does nothing for a viewpoint.)

If you can get past the fact that this ruling was based on no legal grounds but rather on \"sin\" then you move on to the fact that homosexuality is a completely natural and normal thing and only ignorant people oppose it and claim it is unnatural. Personally I am not a homosexual (yeah sure, I know, start the jokes here, \"not that there is anything wrong with that\") but I do know that homosexuality occurs naturally in virtually every species including human beings and has been around for thousands of years. It has in fact been around far longer than the supposedly enlightened religions institutions that oppose it!

We may all have some differences on spirituality, politics, social issues, etc, etc, etc. However, things like this, things as fundamental as evolution and or the \"right or wrong\" nature of someones sexual preference are not even debatable. It is analogous to judging people and creating laws based on nationality or ethnic descent.

Its totally unbelievable in this day and age that any educated being would take this stance on an issue like this, much less supreme court justices.

So for the record, Alabama is a state led by ignorance. You may see the slick TV advertisements for the tourism board, they want your money, but be advised, they may not like your \"kind\" in the abjectly ignorant living up to the stereotype \"backwoods\" south.

For more info on the story see the linked \"Americans United for the Separation of Church and State\" article. Also, check out the AU site in general, its a great resource that expounds on the many reasons for the separation that I alluded to earlier.   http://www.au.org/press/pr022502.htm
