The unlikely source of the Daytona Beach News Journal has an article that is being syndicated around today about the new US energy policy.
Basically the article repeats what I have personally stated in the past, the policy is criminal. The "policy" creates more and more dependence on fossil fuels at a time when most politicians are purporting to be concerned about the issue. Of course most politicians arent concerned because of environmental and or efficiency reasoning (which are the real problems with fossil fuels) but because it chaps their ass when ole Saddam says hes not putting out AND because they have other agendas that involve LESS IMPORTANT factors such as economics (dont get me wrong, the economy is important, but I rank being able to breathe AIR above even economic gains, call me cooky.)
In the modern era there is absolutely ZERO legitimate reason why fossil fuels are still so prevalent. The US is dependent on fossil fuels (and that means foreign petroleum) because for YEARS politic ans and oil, transportation and power companies have colluded to stop other efforts at alternative and frankly better power sources.
When it comes to fossil fuels the overwhelming problem is automobiles. Efficiency is abysmal and US autos consume one in every 7 barrels of oil produced IN THE WORLD (yet our population is nowhere near that proportion.) Transportation in the US is a CRIME. The lack of transportation alternatives to the auto and the inefficiencies of the auto are the result of a concerted effort to maintain the status quo which makes big bucks for oil and auto companies. A concerted effort to increase profits for the involved industries, thats all, not complicated. It is significant to note that the current situation is not because if laziness or oversight or lack of technology, etc, but on the contrary a conscious and deliberate effort to stifle alternatives, conservation and innovation.
