Pretty amazing but not surprising new evidence the states have entered in the Microsoft case. An internal MS memo states that Microsoft employees should use "underground" methods to stifle Linux and Intel. They decided to aim at Intel because of their support of Linux and several Linux related initiatives. The directive was to withhold technical information from Intel and anything Linux related.
The memo included this reflection of the companies attitude. I would further try to restrict source code deliveries where possible and be less gracious when interpreting agreements -- again without being obvious about it.
These guys dont stifle competition do they, come on?
I think it is rather funny and ironic that Microsoft elects to "withhold technical information" when it comes to any project or entity that is Linux related, yet they use Linux related code all over their products (open source code to be more precise, BSD Ip stack, BIND DNS, etc.)
Microsoft claims they never "acted" on this memo, yeah, sure.
I am not opposed to companies having whatever share of the market they can legitimately earn, but crap like this is why Microsoft is hated and should be stopped. I dont totally agree with the government needing to do the stopping though, I wish consumers and companies would recognize the unsavory elements of Microsoft and choose voluntarily to use alternatives. That is how Microsoft SHOULD go out, not via a "breakup" which will never really work (but thats another story altogether.) Maybe the trial will help illuminate the tactics of Microsoft to more people. That may help even if governmental regulation or penalty will not. States Say Microsoft Urged Linux Retaliation: NYTimes
