The fine DMCA is being violated all over the place. In fact, the acronym DMCA is technically covered by the DMCA so when I wrire DMCA that is technically a violation!
Yeah, silliness, but not funny.
It seems that Reuters ran a story earlier this week describing how to break the new digital CD copy protection mechanism with a felt tip pin. "Monday, Reuters obtained an ordinary copy of Celine Dion's newest release 'A New Day Has Come,' which comes embedded with Sony's Key2Audio' technology. After an initial attempt to play the disc on a PC resulted in failure, the edge of the shiny side of the disc was blackened out with a felt tip marker. The second attempt with the marked-up CD played and copied to the hard drive without a hitch."
If you follow the legalese, Reuters did in fact market their story, which contains details of how to break copy protection, this is against the law, clearly. Now, its clearly an idiotic law, but that is the law. In fact the news sources that picked up the Reuters wire also violated the DMCA, as I am again, right now.
