NSA Security Enhanced Linux: theRegister

The Register has a quick story about the NSAs SELinux. The NSA has been developing a distro for sometime and it is well known. The fact that the NSA is using it in this capacity lends credence to the security through knowledge paradigm and bolsters open source in general (expecially in government) while kicking the "security through obscurity" camp in the shins. Re: NSA Security Enhanced Linux: theRegister

Hey, you can actually play with SELinux as well as talk about it. Debian Weekly News had the appended report. In short, this guy has put a box out on the net told everyone the root password and said "Go play, let me know if and how you break it". Too cool! ssh -p 222 root@adsl.coker.com.au Password is "1" (numeral one). SE Linux Play Machine. Russell Coker [54]announced that he set up a machine running SE Linux (with security enhancements) and a known root password. SE Linux uses capabilities and special security levels. As a result, you can't damage the system as root. If you ever wanted to know how SE Linux feels, just try it out. 54. http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0206/msg01187.html
