Why 98% of Americans, Congress and the Prez are totally ignorant

All of this flap about the pledge is total bullshit. No contest. This is a cut and dry and very clear example of how ridiculous and ignorant most US citizens AND the US CONGRESS and PRESIDENT are. The pledge should not include the word "God" in public schools. The constitution clearly states that Church and State should be separate, completely separate, uh, again, separate (and there are a plethora of reasons for that). There is no fucking debate here, if we dont like it, no matter what side we are emotionally on, then we need to change the constitution. Its black and white, its simple, but MOST Americans (apparently based on opinions of friends, neighbors, news media, congress, president, etc, etc, etc) are blinded by selfishness, self righteousness and ignorance and can get past the facts. Come on people. It may make your stomach turn if someone doesnt want to say it, it may be against your personal ideaology, it may not be what YOU want, but its clearly whats LEGAL!!!! The word GOD does not belong in the pledge, or in a public state run institution of any kind, AT ALL. And to take the matter one step further, even if the constitution did not already separate church and state (because after all it is a "living" document depending on whom you talk to) it certainly SHOULD. Another debate here, but at least this line IS A DEBATE whereas the current pledge flap is not. What is even more outrageous than the entire God debate and Church V State debate is how completely blind and stupid Americans are. There has never been a clearer case of right and wrong in recent history. Yet people come up with every excuse possible to see things they way that THEY want, rather than the way things are. This is literally a black and white issue, but even something this simple can be clouded by emotional responses and frankly religious indoctrination rather than critical thinking and logic. This is a very clear yet disappointing and frightening example of the convoluted way America thinks. Lets hope God saves this country, because the people who live here sure as hell cant. Francis Bacon said it best several hundered years ago, and its one of my favorite quotes, though we as a country and a race still have not learned it. The human understanding is no dry light, but receives infusion from the will and affections; which proceed sciences which may be called "sciences as one would." For what a man had rather were true he more readily believes. Therefore he rejects difficult things from impatience of research; sober things, because they narrow hope; the deeper things of nature, from superstition; the light of experience, from arrogance and pride; things not commonly believed, out of deference to the opinion of the vulgar. Numberless in short are the ways, and sometimes imperceptible, in which the affections color and infect the understanding. See the previous posts on the matter here at TotSP (The Pledge). Note that this discussion and the same viewpoints were posted here long before the current flap even was conceived.

i dont even give a @!#$ about the firesuit on this one. go ahead and display your ignorance by commenting contrary to the article right here, go ahead and prove the point of the article.

Re: Why 98% of Americans, Congress and the Prez are totally ig

Yeah, this one is pretty clear. The amendment to the pledge was just a way to annoy "commie-bastards" back in the fifties. Since they were, by definition, athiests, it was figured that they wouldn't ever falsely take the pledge.

Re: Why 98% of Americans, Congress and the Prez are totally ig

exactly, thats what the previous post from sometime back was about. this is not about whether or not people believe in god, or what they do in private schools, etc, its simple. public schools should not inflict (yes i used the word inflict) god on anyone. for that matter our money shouldnt have the "in god we trust" crap on it either.

Re: Why 98% of Americans, Congress and the Prez are totally ig

Heh, some of my favorite tidbits from moronic fellow citizens... "Well, if the Pledge of Allegiance is made unconstitutional then that means we would have to declare the Declaration of Independence as unconstitutional!" Um, duh, the DOI is a historical document, not a legal document, dumbass. "I can't believe that someone has decided to punch America in the stomach at a time when we should be feeling patriotic." We are being patriotic by defending EVERYONE's right to a secular government which impedes NOBODY's right to choose the religion or lack thereof that they see fit. "I am sick and tired of these judges who make such a ruling, trampling on the rights of many to protect the rights of a few." First off, if there is a right granted, it should be a universal right, otherwise it's not really a right, is it? Secondly, they are not trampling on your rights to be a religous nutcase, they are only saying that religion or god can't be forced by government onto one of its citizens. Finally, one of the main purposes of the Constitution is to protect the minority from having their rights overran by popular majority. We are a nation of laws, not a nation of mob rule. It is so easy to get pissed off and say that no one's rights are being trampled on when you are in the majority and the trampler. What would happen to all of these people if, for some reason, the majority of the US population became Muslim and decided to change the Pledge to say "Under Allah"? How many people would be whining about separation and freedom of religion, etc??? The fact is, that the Religous Right and many religous folk out there have an agenda, as handed down to them by their God... and that is to convert every friggin person. By taking away the under God clause, they feel that their power is being threatened. Well TOUGH @!#$! Who said you can use the police power of the state to convert the unwashed masses??? I love the people who say that the "under God" part is really just a rhetorical saying and doesn't really mean "under God". Kind of like when stub your toe and yell "Goddamnit!", you really don't want to damn your toe or the offending nightstand. Well, to me, under God has very specific meaning. And it means a RELIGOUS deity. I don't give a rat's ass which religous deity. It shouldn't be there, period. Whew. OK, enough rant.

Re: Why 98% of Americans, Congress and the Prez are totally ig

Atrox, You did shead a light and perspective on this that I had not seen. (For the record, I am not atheist and I don't go to church.) And I can see where this (possibly) should be taken out. Now with that out of the way... Frankly, this type debate IS the problem. I am sick and fucking tired of everyone feeling like they are pressured to be something or listen to something they don't have to. What is sad is the state of the common man. People of today think that they must be (and want to be) told what to do. I feel for all of those pathetic pissants who have no self-respect and courage to realize that they are in control of themselves. I say we start realizing that internal stuggle is the problem. And everyone start coming to terms with the reality that THEY have control over their lives and their decisions. With that control you can decide that a line in a song is not going to MAKE you believe in "god", or "pressure" your child to do so. whew... sorry for the poor spelling i typed this as fast as i would say it. love, slack

Wow, I thought there would be more fire and brimstone here, instead a few folks agree with me for a change, I stand corrected, none of you have proven the dumbass hypothesis I alluded to in the original post. That said, I am sure its not over, lets give it time. I have a few more thoughts on this, I am going to post another story.
