Giant Squids are the stuff of lore. They do exist, but they may not actually be capable of taking out Captain Nemo (yeah, I originally wrote "Nero", what a jackass, whoops, of course I stand corrected via the gallery). At any rate, even though very few have ever been seen (less than 50 in the last century) they do turn up occasionally. A recent such turn up washed ashore on a Tasmanian beach and with tentacle length included was 18 meters long (60 ft).
Amazing. Considering the strength and weapons that squid are equipped with (camouflage, hard pointed beak that can "break steel cables" and eyes the largest in the animal kingdom) these fellas must be ferocious predators (whatever they eat).

Who's Captain Nero?
Was he the one that fiddled while Rome burned? I thought he was an emperor. I didn't know he was cooking scungilli when all that went on.I like them about 3 inches long myself, an 18 meter one has to be tough as all get out! Ordering scungilli has got to be one of the all time great ways to gross out your friends. They look like a plate of fried spiders.
Or do you mean Jules Verne's character Captain Nemo? Who BTW turns up again in another of Jules books probably my favorite by him, The Mysterious Island. Here I'll ruin it for you, It's Nemo that makes the island so damned mysterious. So you see? Nemo survived the giant squid.
But don't just watch the movie and say the book sucks because the movie does. The movie is really bad! Well, in bad shape at any rate. See: http://www.cultmovies.dk/scores/nemo.htm for more information about all of that.
Isn't there an X application called Nautilus? Is this how all of this relates to Linux?
