The NATION rejoices, Georgia boots Barr and McKinney

On the national political scene is not that often that a few relatively small primary races in a single state have such a large impact.

US Congresspeople Bob Barr and Cynthia McKinney both LOST primary races yesterday in Georgia.

As you can tell by the title of this article, I am an equal opportunity political party opponent. I want the smartest and most honest person in the office, regardless of party. Both of these candidates have a history of hypocrisy that is unacceptable.

Bob Barr has been an abjectly ignorant politician on the national scene for many years. He is a "conservative" republican. To him (maybe not to all who call themselves this) this appears to mean that he has hatred for gay people, attempts to force the non-separation of church and state in a Christian bent, and is against personal rights such as abortion. He was one of the LARGEST critics of Clinton although he himself has had a few issues with affairs and even abortions. He is a tremendous hypocrite, the very reason that the entire political process in America is so reviled by most citizens.

Cynthia McKinney is basically just a clown. She has had some ethical issues concerning trips taken on government dollars, she and her father (a state representative) have a history of harassing voters at the polls, her campaign just YESTERDAY sent out a phone message to over 4000 constituents in her district that stated it was ILLEGAL for republicans to vote in the democratic primary, and ON and ON and ON. She is one of the leaders of the slavery "reparations" movement that aims to have the government pay descendants of slaves (dont get me started on this crap, whether you are black or white or whatever, this is not a responsible thing for our government to be trying to do, its another debate altogether.) She is always the first to play the RACE card and even know is balking that white republican voters turned out to oust her and yet ANOTHER BLACK WOMAN won the race. At every turn she is less than honorable and honest and intelligent and should NOT be a congressperson.

Both of these people deserved to be booted. Its a start. Now this being only a primary it is certainly plausible that the replacements John Linder and Denise Majette respectively will either not actually win the final races and will not end up in congress or will not be any better representatives (the jury being still out on new folks). However, a CHANGE can only be good when it comes to these two legislators.

Georgia rarely if ever makes a smart political move as a whole, but this is a start. Also, I know that many folks will probably not like this story, too bad, cope. If you have comments then comment, but these people have EARNED the consternation they are receiving AND I feel that my assessments are accurate (even the conservative republican characterizations).

I completely agree with you. McKinney and Barr were on the extreme fringes, as seems to be typical here in the South. It is good see more moderate, tempered and thoughtful voices winning over the ignorance and hypocracy. Not as good as having libertarians elected to office, but better than the crap we've put up with for so long.

Re: The NATION rejoices, Georgia boots Barr and Mckinney

i would not even mind a libertarian, in fact, while i do not consider myself to be totally libertarian (i think gun control is a GOOD thing, they hate that, not gun BAN, but better gun control) i voted libertarian in the last several presidential elections.

in hindsight, that vote for a candidate that did not really stand a change probably means i helped elect dubya, but does our vote for president really even matter anyway? (regardless of the "winner", its academic who we vote for, we DO NOT elect the president).
