Marc Fluery founder of JBoss responds to Sun CEO Scott McNealy's interview comments that open source is detracting from Java and J2EE in a battle with .NET (supposedly that is what he said, the linked article does not have a quote but states "claimed in so many words that Open Source is hampering Sun's ability to effectively market J2EE against Microsoft's competing .NET standard."
Fluery responds as I would and makes some great points. "On the contrary", open source is an exemplary success story that CAN compete with .NET where Sun certainly never could (Suns fiascos with Java and Microsoft case in point). The JBoss founder of course says that JBoss is the answer, and while he is right in a way, its not the ONLY answer. The open source model and an open Java standard will not be overtaken by .NET. Thats not to say that .NET will not be prolific and popular, it will be, it IS, but that it wont overtake or replace J2EE in any way.
Its an interesting article and its very concering that Sun CEO McNealy would make such open source statements, if indeed he did. For more see the linked article. http://www.jboss.org/mcnealy.jsp
