Wow, Netware brings back some memories, VLMs and abends and that silly little blue menu. Anyway, Netware is a GREAT fileserver, that was its claim to fame and that has been its downfall. Today people want servers that do much more than serve files.
The new Netware can host many apps, but the focus on running applications and using a standard protocol like TCPIP came way to late for Netware, IMHO (that IPX/SPX stuff was still there until 5 years ago or so, and even when they introduced TCPIP they tunneled it in SPX packets causing the underlying network to still have to support that crap).
My opinions aside, Netware is still around and for some its doing more than serving up files (the good ole Netware 3x and 4x days). Oracle recently announced they wont support Netware with 9i. So Novell has decided to use a better database and PostgreSQL is now in Netware. Add to that that they already selected Apache as the webserver and you have a strange phenomenon. Yes its good for Netware customers, they still can run a database and other apps, but the question becomes what for?
Yes Netware can run these things but at this point I have to point out, so can Linux. That seems totally obvious, but couple that with the fact that Linux is a GREAT FILESERVER and its SECURE and its FREE and it has Xn more capabilities unmentioned here over Netware and we get back to the original Netware problem, if your file server needs help running apps, and your app server can serv files, then what is your file server for again?

I'm seeking clarification... when you said:

Are you stating that PostgreSQL is a better database than Oracle? As pissed of as I am currently with Oracle regarding their stupid pricing that seems to be a bold statement.
That said, I kind of miss the old 3.12 days - although not when some of my customers still running call me with questions. I've long ago forgotten most of the little I ever knew about Novell.

I am TOTALLY saying that PostGRES is a better database than Oracle! However, when I factor better I take into account the COST and SUPPORT. I think Oracle is a *great* product, dont get me wrong, I just dont think its 15K times better than PostGRES on a given box (15K reasons == 15K dollars, etc). I also have been very happy with the support of postgres from the open source community. The only issue I have had in using it has been some JDBC driver crap, but its not the database thats at fault. All of this said, I have never used Postgres for more than a single schema 40-100 table database for an app, never ultra complicated stuff. Most projects I have worked on in my web app career never really NEED oracle, but then again maybe most ERP solutions that run mega corps DO NEED oracle (maybe).
