I think the entire Nobel process and idea is incredibly positive, helpful and downright cool. Alfred Nobel was a Swedish born, Russian raised inventor and businessman whom decided to give his considerable fortunes away to those who provided the "greatest benefit to mankind" every year. Among many other achievments Mr Nobel invented dynamite. Nobels will is the charter for the Nobel foundation which began giving away the prizes in 1900. We do have modern day philanthropists and people that give away large sums of money (Bill Gates, Ted Turner, and countless foundations, etc) but none are quite like this. Nobel declared that those who make the world better should get his hard earned money. That is truly amazing. Imagine our modern day magnates of Industry like Kenneth Lay and or John Rigas deciding to do something like that, much less paying the frickin pentions for the people that worked for them for 30 years. All of the commentary and history aside, the Nobel prizes are being announced this week.
