Massive DoS attack cant stop root servers

Tagged:
Apparently a large distributed DoS attacked was launched against the nets root DNS servers. Despite the attack not much slowdown was noticed by end users. The root servers list other domain name servers that are authoritative for domains. They are by definition the last stop on the chain and therefore while they are critical they are not accessed as often as local name servers. This and the fact that these servers are very well setup, protected and distributed themselves lead to the attack not having much effect. Re: Massive DoS attack cant stop root servers

note, the article referenced in my article stated the attacks were no big deal. other articles have proclaimed that at least 7-9 of the 13 root servers were totally stopped. i heard the prez of ICANN on NPR and he said it basically was not a big deal. he said the "arteries" to the root servers were blocked at times but that the servers themselves were never affected and that countermeasures quickly stopped the attacks. this whole thing has gotten, of course, way out of proportion.
