I know coverage of this is absolutely everywhere but I had to at least acknowledge that Election Day November 5 2002 was a monster win for Republicans around the nation and Democrats were crushed.
Really as I look around at races most of the status quo is there (largely incumbents winning) with a few very important key exceptions. Georgia Senate and Governor, Missouri Senate and Minnesota Senate. These are races where I thought Democrats would hold onto existing seats. In my home state of Georgia, the Democrats were blown off the map for the first time in 130 years.
In addition to Democrats losing Marijuana legalization or even lessening of penalties lost in every state it was on the ballot. Wouldnt it have been cute if Marijuana was legalized in a few states at the same election that Republicans won it all? Yeah, I know, never happen, and it didnt. I still feel drug legalization, especially pot, is a GREAT cause. We waste WAY too much money and effort and resources fighting pot and its legalization would mean we could use those resources in other more important matters. Its another debate entirely, but yesterday pot was also soundly defeated.
This election was a referendum for the President. I dont neccessarily personally agree with the outcome of many of these races but I will say that the nation backed the President and that is in and of itself at least positive (even though the President in my opinion, does not at all deserve the backing, but that must be just me). This President won soundly and he did it in a midterm election in his freshman term. That is unheard of.
My hats off to Republicans on a much more solid campaign and message than any other party had. I dont agree with most of the Republican message, but at least they HAD a discernable message. All other parties are in disarray and should be quite unsettled by the recent results.
After all is said and done, with one party in control in all branches of federal government, lets hope some responsible and productive times are ahead. Game on, the Republicans now have their shot to show what they are made of.

I'll just be weeping in the corner over here....
Re: Election Results: Democrats and Pot big losers
I think that one of the cool things that I noticed was the incredible voter turnout across the US. Granted, it is still low compared to some other countries (Iraq had 100% turnout!) but from what I've heard it was much better than what it has been in a long time. So, all of you pinko-bleeding heart liberals (just kidding!) who lost, at least take heart in the fact that the democratic process is still alive and kicking in the US.
