The OpenPKG project

The OpenPKG project is a *great* idea. Basically its a cross platform RPM installer for packages. Official support is available on FreeBSD, Debian and Solaris and limited support is available on NetBSD, OpenBSD, RedHat Linux, HP Tru64, SCO UnixWare and QNX. How the hell cool is that?

Same installer, same packages across platforms, brilliant. I know some people dont like RPM but lets face it, a package manager in general is a good idea (dont always need to compile everything) and having to use six different tools is a waste of time and effort.

OpenPKG has just released a new rev, version 1.2. Check out more via the linked OpenPKG site and Sysadmin article.   http://www.openpkg.org/
