The Best Linux GUI CD Burning Software

Tagged:

All of the various CD burning GUI programs pretty much use the same stuff underneath (cdrecord, etc). SO which one of the GUIs puts it all together the best?

I have recently tried X-CDRoast, KonCD and Arson. My vote goes hands down to Arson. KonCD is ok but it had problems when it was not root (even when started as root, I did not go so far as to sudo the subcommands, but suffice to say it worked as root but not as other users). X-CDRoast is ok as well but wasnt really impressive. Both KonCD and XCDRoast have sort of kludgy interfaces (IMHO). Arson is great all around (if you have KDE, it is admittedly a KDE interface, fortunately for me thats what I use, but it might not work for other platforms).

Arson *seems* more full featured in that it incorporates ripping with burning, VCD, etc. Arson also has the best interface of all them. Arson worked well the first time after a minor issue with compiling it (ld was trying to link -lkfile, that failed since I think all of that is now in kio, so I changed the Makefile and configure references to -lkfile to -lkio and it worked fine).

All that said I must also say that I am pretty amatuer at CD burning. I make backups to CD and tape, and very occassionally put music on a CD, but thats about it. I dont rip music cds to mp3. dont make VCDs, etc. Therefore if anyone out there has more expertise/insight and there is something I have overlooked or missed altogether please pipe up. Arson is my vote, and I havent come across any shortcomings with it but what is your vote?

For Gnome users

Gnome users may want to check out eroaster. It seems comparable to arson. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get it to configure for a non-root user. There is also a how-to for Mandrake 9.0 users, though most of it should be applicable to other distros/versions.

Re: For Gnome users

i create up to a thousand cds a month.

x-cdroast gets my vote.

Re: For Gnome users

damn, your vote counts twice because of all that usage. hope you are getting some cheap blanks.
