Gecko to power everything in the world

Gecko is the Mozilla browser engine. Its the core and its used in many other projects/products as well such as Netscape, Phoenix, Compuserve, OSX client, etc.

There has been speculation for a long time about when Gecko would power AOL. Well the scoop from insiders is that by the end of this year there will be an AOL release that is Gecko powered (many of us thought it would be in AOL 7x, they used it in some betas).

After that according to the linked MozillaNews article Gecko will also power embedded browsers, AOL Communicator, special high power secret AOL projects, Internet appliances, game consoles, toasters, the International Space Station and Dick Cheneys pace maker! (Ok so I threw a few of those in there, you get the idea.)

For more on the future of Gecko see the linked MozillaNews article and note that it comes with a big disclaimer that although this stuff has actually been discussed, it might not happen as divulged due to all the recent AOL woes.

Whatever your take is, its time you listen to the ranting of lunatics like myself that implore you to make your HTML code validate. All that BORDERWIDTH, LEFTMARGIN, NOBR, LAYER, etc, etc, etc crap aint gonna fly with more than 50% of the US users on the Internet the day the switch is made to Gecko. Get with the program, hit the W3C and make sure your stuff validates, for many more reasons than the coming of the Gecko.    Mozilla, Gecko, Netscape, and the future in AOL: MozillaNews
